In a follow-up event to Visionaries 2.0 held in Karachi on October 6, 2018, e-Magine managed to conduct another successful student competition for young innovators.
Held at the Falleti Hotel in Lahore on October 27, 2018 the event called Visionaries 2.0 – Lahore Chapter, was attended by students, teachers and prominent personalities from the fields of education, business and technology. 85 students participated in the event from schools in Lahore, Okara, Sargodha and Multan including The City School (TCS) Network, Beaconhouse School System (BSS), Roots School System, The Crescent School, SICAS, KIPS Education System and St. Anthony’s School.
KIPS Mughalpura Campus won first place in the completion while teams from Beaconhouse Model Town (Boys) and KIPS Girls Senior Branch were the second and third runners-up respectively. Winners were awarded shields and prizes by Ms. Huda Garib, founder and CEO at e-Magine as well as the judges.
The idea behind Visionaries 2.0 was to provide students from grades 7 to 10 with a platform to exhibit innovative ideas, technical expertise and other soft skills, according to Huda. “I have seen firsthand how much talent students in Pakistan have. But in giving CIEs and board exams, all this talent is lost. That’s where e-Magine came in. We aim to give high school students a platform to showcase their skills while at the same time, providing them with exposure to resources, avenues and people who can help mentor them and make their dreams come true,” said Huda when asked about the conception of e-Magine and Visionaries 2.0.
Participating teams were asked to develop prototypes which could possibly transform the way we live in the next 30 to 50 years. They were given 60 minutes to develop pitch deck presentations for their ideas on the spot and create prototypes to add further visualisation to their idea. All the materials required for their presentations and prototypes were given by the event organisers. Once their time was up, they were asked to present their models before the panel of judges to earn the title of being the most innovative visionary of the year.
“The objective behind Visionaries 2.0 is indeed commendable,” said Tabinda Usman, one of the guest speakers at the event. “I was amazed to see the level of energy and excitement in all the participants and I must appreciate the parents and teachers for motivating and guiding them to exhibit their best efforts here,” she added.
The event was attended by renowned people in the fields of education, IT and business. Mr. Shehriar Hassan, Head of Marketing & Business Development at Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited and Mr. Sardar Zaheer, CEO and Co-founder at Marcom Pvt. Ltd served as judges at the event. Guest speakers included Ms. Tabinda Usman who has over 10 years of experience in the field of education and has also been working with the Superior University as a marketing and entrepreneurship resource for the last 7 years; Ms. Sana Ahmad, Co-founder at Photographire; and, Mr. Tahir Mahmood from Youth Entrepreneurship.
The event sponsors included Up.Rise Ventures, Daewoo Express, NSPIRE, Tech Pakistan, Viper, Shakarganj, Quice, Fotisto, Slice, Pepsi, Bogo, North Spear, EMA, and Diver’s Reef. The official media partner for the event was Lahore Rung.
